Apple released iOS 12.1.3 public beta 2 for iPhones on Wednesday, Dec. 19. Yes, that's confusing, since there was no first beta for iOS 12.1.3, but it indicates that it's the actual successor to iOS 12.1.2 public beta 1. Apple dropped iOS 12.1.2 unexpectedly to fix major issues but did not include everything in the beta, so we're picking up right where we left off.

Thanks to the dev beta release, we know the public beta doesn't add any significant new features or changes to Apple's mobile operating system. Instead, iOS 12.1.3 public beta 2 will introduce minor unnamed bug fixes and security patches, resulting in a more stable build of iOS. Right now, the only things in the release notes are:

Accessibility Resolved Issues

  • Resolved an issue where some user interface elements were inaccessible to VoiceOver in the 'Electrocardiogram (ECG)' and 'Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification' sections in Health > Health Data > Heart. (46505168)

Core Audio Resolved Issues

  • Audio performance when using some third-party apps is improved on iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd generation) and iPad Pro 11-inch models. (46037111)

To update your iPhone to iOS 12.1.3 public beta 2, you first need to have a valid public beta configuration profile from Apple. Then, if you have iOS 12's "Automatic Updates" enabled, you can let the software update overnight. To download the beta right now, launch Settings, select "General," then "Software Update." Tap "Download and Install," then follow the on-screen prompts.

Apple's iOS 12.1.3 update will hopefully include new features down the line. The 12.1.2 public beta, alongside dev beta, didn't offer much in the way of features or changes to iOS 12 as a whole, but the official release included major bug fixes for eSIM support on iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR.
